Our Dam Tour

This weekend we went on a tour of a dam on the Snake River. They have an elaborate system in place to help the spawning fish get over the dam using a fish ladder and crazy "rivers" that run all through the structure of the dam. At one point, they have viewing glass so that you can see the fish as they go up the ladder. A person sits at a window and counts all the fish going through the dam. Some steelhead trout were up to 3 feet long! They wouldn't let us take pictures since they've tightened security from 9-11, but this is a pic of the fish viewing spot that I found on their website to show you what we saw.

At dinner the girls were commenting on the upcoming events their schools were holding for Earth Day. Zack remarked that he had some big plans for when it was Neptune Day soon.

Our family eats fresh salsa daily. We are addicted. Zack and I recently started eating more mild salsa than everyone else. Zack calls it "warm" salsa, since it is not as hot. We were out of warm salsa today. Zack wanted me to put the hotter salsa in the empty container that used to hold the mild kind. He was convinced that if it was in the right container, it would turn mild, like by magic. When I informed him that it would not work that way, he said, "let's just try it and see."

Zack after hearing the word "chase" on tv:

"Chase? I have a friend named Chase."

Jeremy: "Oh yeah?"

Zack: "Yeah, he's from Saturn."

Jeremy: "From Saturn?"

Zack: "Yeah, his family is from Saturn and our family is from Earth."

This Sunday at church, Jeremy gave the opening prayer. As soon as he finished, and as he was walking down off the stand, Zack yelled out from our pew, "DAD YOU DID AWESOME AT THAT!" It took awhile for the congregation to regain their composure from laughing.

Zack has an amazing memory. Last Christmas our church stake put on a nativity showing. While there, the kids had a chance to dress up and take pictures in a real nativity. (Zack was a sheep.) This week, we attended stake conference in the same building that the nativities were held in. On the way there, Zack asked, "Do I have to dress like a sheep?" It took us awhile to figure out what he was talking about.

Recently Jeremy and I went on a date to go get hot chocolate and do some shopping. When we came home, Zack asked if we went to the "new Walmart." I told him no, that we went to get some hot chocolate at a hot chocolate store. To which he exclaimed, "Wow, you must have been really thirsty!"

While sitting during a quiet time in church Zack affectionately gave Laurel a kiss. When Clara asked for one too, he yelled for all to hear, "No, you're too icky!"

Zack loves space guys. Today he told me that he really likes "Fuzz" Lightyear from Toy Story.

After seeing Zack's messy room Jeremy asked him, "Zack, did bad guys break into your room and set a bomb off?"

While Laurel and Clara were reading a book, Zack came up to them and out of the blue announced, "Mom, screwdrivers are totally awesome!"

Clara: "I'm thirsty. Zack is too." Zack: "I'm not two! I'm three!"

Zack: "When I'm a teenager I'm going to learn some things so I can poop in the potty."

Zack spied a school bus in a parking lot, "Mom, kids ride that bus." To which I replied, "Yes, and are you a kid?" Zack-

"No, I'm a machine."

Zack is very concerned with what day of the week it is. Last Monday when he asked Laurel what day it was she replied, "Monday.," to which he said, "Oh Wow!"

On Sunday Hayley asked, "Zack, what day of the week is it?" He responded, "Poop-day!" (Great)

While having a snack afterschool Clara declared, "I'm glad that I'm not a bird, and don't have to eat with rocks in my gizzard!"
